Apple to start using in-house 5G modem starting in 2025, says analyst Kuo

Read Time:1 Minute, 3 Second

Apple has been working on its own 5G modem for some time now and is yet to launch an iPhone with its in-house 5G chip. The brand currently relies on Qualcomm, and popular analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has corroborated previous reports claiming that it will not change for the next two years since Apple is expected to switch to its in-house 5G chips starting in 2025.

That means the upcoming iPhone 15 and next year’s iPhone 16 lineup will use Qualcomm’s 5G modems, with the iPhone 17 possibly being the first iPhone to use Apple’s self-developed 5G modem. We’ve also heard about the iPhone SE 4, reportedly delayed until 2025, using Apple’s in-house 5G chip.

Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max

There are no details about Apple’s 5G modems, so it’s unclear what kind of improvements and benefits it will bring to the iPhones over Qualcomm’s 5G chips.

Earlier this year, we heard Apple was also considering using its own wireless chip for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity on iPhones, with the first iPhone to use Apple’s in-house wireless chip coming in 2025.

The tech giant is also reportedly considering combining the wireless and cellular chips to save production costs and improve power efficiency.
